why is decluttering a struggle?
Decluttering… Ah, so much fun. Turning your home into a minimalist haven, like those Instagram influencers do. But let’s be real — for most of us, it’s a struggle!
Why is it so hard to let go of that old concert T-shirt or the coffee mug collection that your kitchen no longer has space for?
Well, for one, there’s the sentimental value. Like that sweater your grandma knitted for you in the fifth grade. It may be two sizes too small and a childish color scheme, but it’s part of your childhood memories!
Oh, what about the “just in case” items. That ice cream maker that you used exactly one time. Yeah, let’s keep that just in case you decide to be a professional ice cream maker person. Or that blazer you’re keeping just in case you get a job in the corporate world even though the corporate world isn’t your thing.
What about the guilt factor of throwing money away? You spent $100 on that pair of shoes that you barely wore. Getting rid of them is like throwing cash down the drain. So, instead, they just sit in your closet collecting dust.
I was (and honestly, still kind of am) guilty of all these factors. But, you know what? All it takes are just baby steps. Tackle one side of your closet/kitchen cabinet/dresser drawer at a time.
Trust me, once you start decluttering, you’ll feel relief that you didn’t think you’d feel just by clearing your environment.
It’s okay to let go. Your space (and your sanity) will thank you.
